Forensic

First class financial investigation

Our forensic accounting team of KJG can undertake forensic investigations for all purposes. In the past we have undertaken such investigations for divorce or marriage disputes where one party needs to determine the assets of the other party so they can determine entitlement in a financial settlement. Commercial disputes where a business needs to understand the level of damage to the business following actions by a director, employee, competitor or another business. Fraud Investigations where a business needs to determine if there has been a fraudulent act and, if so, assess the impact of that fraud. Very often such investigations can be painful. Our experienced forensic accounting team will make it as painless as they can by guiding you through.

Criminal Defence

If you are being prosecuted for fraud or white collar crime, it is essential that you, your solicitor and barrister, and ultimately the judge and jury understand the accounting evidence. Our forensic accounting team at KJG has more than 15 years experience of providing forensic accounting as part of the criminal defence for cases including, VAT fraud, theft by employees, false accounting and wrongful trading.  In addition, numerous reports have been prepared in connection with asset confiscation matters brought under POCA.

Our team will look at whether:

  • The prosecution accountancy evidence is accurate, complete and consistent with all other evidence
  • The accountancy evidence suggests different explanations to the prosecution’s case
  • The prosecution’s case is sound, based on the accountancy evidence

Loss of Profit

Where there has been a sudden and significant loss of profit, KJG will look for the reason. Such a loss may have been caused by:

  • Poor managing decisions
  • Loss of customers
  • Changes in orders
  • Changes in the market
  • Loss of key employees
  • Fraudulent activity

Our forensic accounting team will be able to assess and interrogate the financial information which will enable you to identify what has caused the loss, and develop a strategy for how you are going to rectify it.

Valuations

There can be many reasons for valuing a business, but the reason is mostly a sale or merger of the business, a shareholder dispute or a matrimonial dispute. It is difficult to value a business or shares in a private company because the value is determined by the future prospects of the business, something no one can predict with guaranteed accuracy.

We have significant experience of valuing businesses, and this experience allows us to make sound valuations based on previous performance, market changes, and a number of reasonable assumptions.

The Manchester based Forensic Accounting team can undertake forensic investigations for all purposes.

In the past we have undertaken such investigations for:

  • Divorce of marriage disputes; where one party needs to determine the assets of the other party so they can determine entitlement in a financial settlement.
  • Commercial disputes; where a business needs to understand the level of damage to the business following actions by a Director, employee, competitor or another business.
  • Fraud Investigations; where a business needs to determine if there has been a fraudulent act and, if so, assess the impact of that fraud.
  • Criminal Defence action, including advising on the implications of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
  • Consequential… the use of Interest Rate hedging products. Very often such investigations can be painful, our experienced Forensic Accounting team will make it as painless as they can by guiding you through.
